Wakefield Hospice is a provider of specialist palliative care for patients, families, and carers.
The Hospice was founded in 1982 and opened in 1990 by the people of Wakefield and is committed to providing the highest level of symptom management and care for people who have advanced active, progressive, and life-threatening illnesses. The Hospice endorses a holistic approach to promoting quality of life for patients as well as in the continuing support that is offered to families and carers throughout the period of illness and into bereavement.
On average, the Hospice caters to 300 inpatients and 1800 daycare attendances every year, all hospice care is free of charge to patients. 80p of every pound donated to Wakefield Hospice is spent on patient care. Our multidisciplinary team includes doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, complementary therapists, occupational therapists, artists, social workers, and chaplains plus support services, cooks, domestics, caretakers, receptionists, office staff, fundraisers, and trading and shop, staff.
Finally, our volunteer team looks after the 300 plus volunteers who give their time freely and provide vital support to our staff throughout the hospice spectrum.
We have charity shops selling a wide range of quality fashion and homeware, including an antique, vintage, and retro shop situated in the city centre. We also sell a great variety of items online via our eBay shop.
