About St Vincent de Paul Society
About This Shop
The St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) of England and Wales is part of an international lay Christian voluntary organisation actively working in over 140 countries with the poor, disadvantaged and marginalised.
In England and Wales alone, the SVP reaches out each week of the year to more than 20,000 people in need. We do this by visiting them in their homes or in hospitals, or by providing accommodation for them. The Society also runs furniture shops, community shops, over 40 in total, hostels for people on bail, homes for the mentally ill, and many other projects. Some Conferences specialise in visiting hospitals and other members visit prisoners or their families. There are Youth Conferences in schools, parishes, and universities. Many Conferences are twinned with Conferences in India, the Sudan and elsewhere overseas, providing money for them and exchanging letters, and praying for one another.
The Society operates a number of holiday initiatives, including summer camps for children and holiday homes for young and old. No work of charity is foreign to the Society. We are involved in a diverse range of activities.
