About City Hospice
About This Shop
City Hospice Care was established in 1984 and was instrumental in bringing palliative care to Cardiff supporting those suffering from cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
Over the past 25 years, it has helped many thousands of patients and their families providing not only specialist nurses but also occupational therapists, social workers, welfare rights officers, and bereavement counseling. All help is provided free of charge and we are presently the major provider of specialist palliative care for the area. We are the only independent voluntary hospice in Wales that finances a full-time consultant who provides expert advice to the clinical team.
The annual running costs are over £1.2 million and with limited statutory funding, the large bulk of expenditure has to be met from ongoing fundraising. This requires great effort from a wide range of fundraising events, activities, and sources which include the shops. The shops are manned entirely by volunteers to maximize their income and without the support of these hardworking individuals, we could not maintain this income stream. Currently, there are 7 shops that open Monday to Saturday
