Charity Fashion Live ‘Got the look at London Fashion Week’ with their Barnardo’s takeover
One of the most exciting events on the London Fashion Week schedule this season came from Charity Fashion Live. The event is a fashion week favourite for people wondering how to create ‘on trend’ looks from their local charity shop without breaking the bank.
The event involved stylist Emma Slade-Edmondson recreating London Fashion Week looks moments after they emerged on the catwalk, using only the pre-loved clothing she found in the Barnardo’s store in Brixton.
Emma chose a range of looks and designers to demonstrate that there is something in Barnardo’s stores for everyone and the shows covered included Ryan Lo, Jasper Conran, Julien Macdonald, Molly Goddard, Ports 1961 and Henry Holland. This showed that you can recreate flamboyant and extrovert styles such as from Molly Goddard or more commercial catwalk looks that are classic and easy to wear such as the one from Jasper Conran.
There is a short film on the charity fashion live website https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vs0oDvn1PU that goes behind the scenes and shows how Emma created the looks and check out the facebook page to see host presenter and style Influencer Fabienne to pick up style and trend tips https://www.facebook.com/CharityFashionLive. The Charity Fashion Live Takeover event was brought to you with partners Barnardo’s and proudly supported by Love Your Clothes, with the aim of helping us get the most out of our clothes. With trends changing season by season, it can be difficult to keep up, particularly if you don’t have a big budget. But with an estimated 1.1 million tonnes of clothing being discarded every year by UK consumers, there is a treasure trove available at a fraction of the price in Barnardo’s stores. Charity Fashion Live proved that pre-loved clothing can be bang on trend; all you need is a little creative know-how and a trip to your local Barnardo’s shop to get unique looks on a budget.
“Fast fashion has created a climate in which people have a throw away relationship with their clothes, with over 350,000 tonnes of clothing going into landfill in the UK every year. With a little creativity, we can all put something really stunning together using pre-loved threads.’ Emma Slade Edmondson, Charity Fashion Live Founder
“At present, UK consumers are spending approximately £44 billion on new clothing each year, yet nearly a third of our clothes have not been worn in the last year. At Love Your Clothes London we’re aiming to raise awareness of more sustainable ways of buying, using and disposing of clothes. Small changes in behaviour can really make a huge difference to people’s wardrobes and to the environment.” Love Your Clothes London
