Shelter’s new boutique in Kings Cross has a very appealing look combining industrial with beautiful, hard and soft, and it is a joy to behold. Designed by Wayne Hemingway in a spirit of re-use and re-cycle they have created a unique look and feel in keeping with the history of the building and the location.

Shelter has opened its flagship charity store in Coal Drops Yard, where a purchase could transform your wardrobe while helping fight homelessness.
Boutique by Shelter, designed by HemingwayDesign, is at the forefront of the charity retailer revolution. It is the first charity shop to open at Coal Drops Yard, the new shopping and restaurant district in London’s King’s Cross.
Located within a reimagined set of historic buildings and arches directly adjacent to Granary Square and Regent’s Canal, Coal Drops Yard houses over fifty stores from a unique mix of established and emerging brands, along with cafés, bars, top independent restaurants and new public spaces.
Boutique by Shelter joins a line-up of leading retailers that includes Paul Smith, Tom Dixon, Wolf & Badger, MHL. By Margaret Howell, Cubitts, Form&Thread, LPOL, Beija London, Emin & Paul and Universal Works, as well as restaurants including Vermuteria, Barrafina, Casa Pastor and wine bar The Drop.
Polly Neate, chief executive Shelter said: “Shelter provides advice and support for thousands of people across the country facing homelessness. This unique new shop will help raise vital funds to help us be there for more people in this horrible situation.
“That’s why we’re calling on the local community for their support – whether it be volunteering, donating treasured pre-loved pieces or shopping for a bargain.”
The shop’s shelves are heaving with carefully curated stock, showcasing some incredible finds. These include rare collectibles, designer and vintage fashion, high quality jewellery, accessories and gifts, all sold at a fraction of their retail value.

And the stunning new location boasts an eye-catching interior thanks to the HemingwayDesign team.
Wayne Hemingway, co-founder of HemingwayDesign said: “Our approach to this unique space has been to reduce, re-use and recycle as much as possible, so this looks unlike any other charity shop you’ve ever been in.
“Our design centres around ‘modern salvage’, creating a crisp contemporary space using reclaimed materials wherever possible, “Shopping consciously can extend from buying pre-loved to using pre-loved in the construction of the shop itself.”
To donate stock or find out more about volunteering pop into Boutique by Shelter at Coal Drop’s Yard or call them on 0203 725 9439. The shop is open 10am-8pm Mon-Sat and 12am to 6pm on Sundays. A free collection service is also available – just contact the shop to find out more.
