St Leonard’s Hospice recently opened a new charity store in the Layerthorpe district, North East of York City, this area is more industrial and so an ideal place for a Furniture & Home store.
60 Layerthorpe, York, YO31 7YW, 01904 629565
On the 15th August, we opened a brand new shop just outside the city centre at 60 Layerthorpe, in front of a crowd of excited shoppers and supporters. The large shop floor is always full of high-quality second hand furniture, but also stocks clothing, books, media, and accessories.
The shop interior is something the Hospice’s retail team is very proud of as Helen Moreton, Retail Manager, explains: “The look of the shop is very different for us. When we opened our shop on Fossgate last summer, the interior was styled on a trendy, independent boutique whereas we have tried to give the interior at Layerthorpe a slightly industrial look. All the units are moveable and multipurpose and have been especially designed for us by our Retail Facilities Co-ordinator Dom Spurr who has done a great job! Dom has built most of the fixtures from OSB board and steel giving us a unique interior. It’s been a great team effort all round. “We also greatly benefitted from the support of MKM builders who donated all of the materials to build a wall in the shop and create some of the fixtures. We are extremely grateful for this, ensuring we got the shop open on time.”
The shop sits opposite ASDA Layerthorpe, and the opening hours are Monday to Saturday 9am to 4pm. If you have furniture you would like to donate and have collected, or are interested in volunteering at this new shop, you can contact the retail team on 01904 788 777.
