About Wigan & Leigh Hospice
About This Shop
Wigan and Leigh Hospice has been providing palliative care for adult patients across Wigan Borough for over 35 years.
We are a registered charity and care for over 1,100 people with a life-limiting illness every year. We also provide care and support for those people important to our patients.
Most of our patients receive care in their own homes although we also provide care for people living in nursing or care homes and at the hospice in Hindley.
We provide skilled care, help, and support over an extended period of time to people living with an incurable illness. Our teams care for people with a wide range of conditions such as cancer, advanced heart failure, and COPD.
We are proud to be a specialist healthcare provider giving people extraordinary experiences.
Working closely with GPs, District Nurses, nursing home staff, students and other health and social care professionals we share our knowledge and skills through formal education programs. By sharing our expertise with other professionals, their patients will benefit even if they do not directly access hospice services.
We do not charge for our care and rely on the local community to continue to support the hospice.
Our aim is to extend our specialist care to everyone in Wigan and Leigh who needs our support.
None of this would happen without support from our fantastic community across Wigan and Leigh.
Only around a third of our funding comes from the NHS. The rest comes from the generosity of local people through charitable giving including donations, fundraising, legacies, the hospice lottery, and our hospice shops.
The hospice has 13 shops across the borough in addition to an eBay shop and a stall at Bygone Times in Eccleston. Our shops generate over £1 million in income each year. So, every item donated or bought really does make a difference.
Our shops are run and managed by a team of around 400 dedicated volunteers. This helps to keep our running costs down and means more funds go directly towards patient care.
