About St Andrews Childrens Hospice
About This Shop
St Andrew’s Hospice in Grimsby has its origins as far back as the 4th Century when religious orders offered expressions of Christian hospitality and care to travelers and to the sick. Whilst the modern hospice movement has come a long way from those origins, the features of Christian ‘hospitality and care’ have endured and are deeply embedded in the life of St Andrew’s. We provide palliative care to anyone over the age of 18 years with a progressive, life-limiting illness. Although the majority of our patients live in North East Lincolnshire, we accept patients from other areas if it is more convenient for them and their families and we have space available. No charge is made to any patient, irrespective of their means.
What care do we offer?
Respite care is planned for a specific period and enables patients to remain in their own homes for as long as is possible, as well as allowing their family to have a break.
Symptom control is the management of symptoms that are proving difficult to manage and requires specialist palliative care.
Rehabilitation is the process of promoting independence by assisting the patient and their family to cope with routine daily activities.
Terminal care enables the patient to die in a place of their choosing and with the support of the Hospice and their family.
Day Therapy
Patients attend for day therapy depending on their needs and the availability of places.
We rely almost entirely on fundraising and donations and are very grateful that the community we serve is incredibly generous in their support for the work. We also run a network of Charity Shops and two tea rooms across the region which also plays a vital role in raising funds.
