About Julia's House
About This Shop
Julia’s House is the only children’s hospice situated in Dorset and Wiltshire dedicated to helping children and their families. When a family finds out their child has a very serious medical condition, which is life-limiting or life-threatening, their world falls apart. An unwell child is a worry for any parent – but being told there is no cure for a complex medical condition or illness that will require constant 24-hour care is devastating.
Almost 60% of Julia’s House respite care is carried out in the community. Community care enables parents to have time out with their partners, their other children, or simply a chance to catch up with some day-to-day tasks like shopping or cleaning, safe in the knowledge their child is being looked after by people they know and trust.
The Julia’s House hospices are fun and caring environments for children and families, where they can enjoy short breaks away for respite and relaxation. Specialist activity and play sessions and even sleepovers are a wonderful ways to enable every child to have an enjoyable experience.
The charity’s family support service enables family members to participate in carefully planned regular social events. This could be a treat for mums and dads or a sleepover for siblings, helping to build their resilience and confidence. A variety of complementary therapies are offered to parents and children and every child Julia House cares for will also receive a dedicated play plan to help them reach their full potential.
The Julia’s House care team is there to help the whole family come to terms with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition, right from the point of diagnosis. The team is available year-round, in a crisis, offering extra emergency respite and overnight care for families at home or in hospital. The care team is also there when the worst happens, providing where needed, emotional, and practical support 24 hours a day at the end of a child’s life.
