About This Shop
Islamic Relief is a humanitarian and development agency working to transform and save the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable people. We work in over 35 countries responding to disasters and carrying out long-term development work that helps lift communities out of poverty.
Set up in Birmingham in 1984 by a group of volunteers, Islamic Relief has assisted over 120 million to date. We work in some of the world’s most dangerous and difficult places – including Syria and Yemen – helping vulnerable communities to meet their basic needs and to build a brighter future.
In 2019 alone, we delivered 150 emergency projects providing a lifeline to millions affected by conflict and natural disasters, while our development projects continue to contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In addition, we support vulnerable people in the UK in partnership with local charities and organisations. We also campaign for positive change through advocacy and by developing Islamic perspectives to some of the challenges facing our world.
Our global family includes national offices, affiliated partners, and field offices. We also own a subsidiary company called TIC International which raises funds for our work by collecting and recycling clothing. It was set up in 1993 following an influx of clothing donations in the aftermath of numerous emergency appeals.
Islamic Relief has 13 charity shops across the UK in Birmingham, Bradford, Bolton, Cardiff, Derby, Glasgow, Leicester, London, Manchester, Newport, and Nottingham. These shops generate an invaluable source of income for us to carry out our vital work.
We also run a £1 charity shop in Cardiff solely by volunteers, after we found that there are a large number of asylum seekers in the area who are living in poverty. As well as helping to raise funds for our work across the world, the shop provides opportunities for asylum seekers to volunteer, helping them practice English, gain experience in retail, and supporting their integration into the community.
We sell a great range of items including clothing, toys, bric-a-brac, and even furniture in some stores!
