About Hospice of The Valleys
About This Shop
The Hospice of the Valleys provides a hospice-at-home service for adults suffering from cancer and other life-limiting illnesses in Blaenau Gwent, caring for them at home whenever possible.
We provide emotional support to families and carers through the patients’ illness and into bereavement if appropriate. The hospice can be divided into three sections – our drop-in clinics, our hospice at home service and our bereavement service. Every week we hold clinics in each of the main four towns in Blaenau Gwent, where patients can meet with a nurse and social worker and get support from other patients. They can also receive complementary therapies such as massage, healing, reiki, and reflexology from our team of therapists. There is also an all-day Saturday clinic, which is held once a month.
The hospice has a team of eight nurses, a part-time consultant, a part-time GP, two social workers, two benefits advisers, plus administrative and fundraising staff. – while a large band of more than 130 volunteers helps with running our clinics and charity shops and with fundraising events. The hospice’s offices are currently in Morgan Street, Tredegar. Last year we launched a £2 million appeal to build a new hospice centre on the former steelworks site in Ebbw Vale but the current recession has slowed the plans.
The hospice has a chain of charity shops, all run by volunteers, which is very well supported by the public in Blaenau Gwent and raise around £100,000 profit a year for the charity.
